“when did they start rehearsing?”
Little gewels; three, 4 and 5 year olds, in Senegal, are invited into circles as their Wolof uncles and brothers talk drum and aunts and sisters clap and call ‘EY WAYE’. It’s here they show off their prowess of new bakks and traditional rhythms. They’ve been listening and watching their uncles since they were born and have been drumming for their dancing sisters on small tin can drums, empty water bottles and overturned bowls; anything that makes sound, for a few years now.
