The Tuareg; Berber nomadic people from the Interior Saharan desert (Niger, Algeria, Mali, Libya), have an art of tea Attay/Attaya making that has spread throughout Sub-Saharan Africa. It is customary to sit and drink three cups to symbolize how friendships over time become more mellow, more sweet, as each cup does the same. In Senegal if you arrive while making tea, you will ask : which cup are we on? and be invited to share.
